A message with inappropriate content may be harassing, request data outside the scope of University business, contain insinuation, or intimate contentedness, and appears to come from person known to you such as a schoolmate, teacher, or administrator. Should you receive a message with inappropriate subject you should immediately contact the IST Service Desk, or ; at your free will the appropriate authorities such as the Dean of Student Services Office, or NJIT Department of Public Safety. Do not reply to or contact the transmitter directly. Often, the senders information has been falsified or spoofed. Do not delete or alter the message in any way, store it in your mail booklet until contacted by the Network Security Manager .
Phishing messages – Beware of Email Fraud
University members have been receiving phishing e-mail messages. Please be mindful of how to identify e-mail phishing and what to do if one is received. While IST continues to take steps to reduce the count of such messages, it is not possible to stop all phishing messages. These messages frequently provide misinformation, offer you something for nothing or at a low risk, or ask for fiscal aid. Some are immediately identified by their discipline .
IST asks the university community to be on the lookout for such e-mail phishing. Some crucial things to remember are :
- Never provide personal or financial information about yourself via E-mail
- Never provide any private information about NJIT or any of its members via E-mail
- Any unsolicited E-mail message should be suspicious do not reply without investigating
- Never reply to unsolicited messages; this will serve to provide a correct E-mail address
- Never confront the sender of a phishing message yourself
Spam or Junk Mail
The best protection against e-mail spam is prevention. Be identical aware of who you give your electronic mail address to while on-line. Some websites and dislodge software request your e-mail address before providing access.
